The Calabar Festival is usually touted as ‘Africa’s Biggest Street Party’. It is an annual festival held every December in Cross River State in Nigeria. The event which started as an early celebration of Christmas used to be a month-long affair until it was reduced to two weeks. The carnival which is now a tourism hub is marked by traditional dances, beauty pageants, fashion shows, and many other attractions. The carnival has always been entertaining and colourful as different competitions take place and huge cash prizes are won.
The event hosts local and international musicians, actors and actresses, politicians and other notable men and women. Some of the entertainers who have attended the carnival include Lucky Dube, Akon, Fat Joe, Young Jeezy, Nelly, Kirk Franklin, among others.
