A Journey Through Makoko: An Unforgettable Experience

The rhythmic beat of drums echoed through the air as Brian and his friend stepped into Makoko. Laughter and singing filled their ears as a group of energetic children welcomed them with dance. Unable to resist, they joined in, swaying to the beat, feeling the pulse of the community before they were led to the Baale’s palace. With a warm smile, the Baale granted them permission to explore, and their adventure truly began.

Halfway through the journey, the tour guide pointed at something unusual and told them thats what they call coffee in Makoko. Their journey continued to a local school, where they were once again greeted with songs and dance. The students’ energy was contagious, pulling Brian and his friend into another joyful celebration.

But the most astonishing part of the journey awaited them on water. Boarding a wooden canoe, they glided through Makoko’s famous stilt houses—homes standing tall above the water, a world unlike anything they had ever seen. Women paddled past with baskets of goods, children played in canoes, and life thrived on the floating village.

As the sun set, casting golden hues over the water, Brian and his friend sat in awe. Makoko was more than a place—it was a story of culture, resilience, and joy. And they had just lived it.
